Many of the ‘the ***’ bands of today fall painfully in comparison to the quality of the output found here. After all, this was a time when genre pigeon holing was a big issue. Thankfully, these bands were less concerned about their images and more concerned with taking their place in music’s rich and colourful history. From the Kronos Quartet intro until the final note from Cibo Matto, people who don’t mind lifting a few rocks won’t be disappointed with the gems (re) discovered here. The single disc contains appearances from the likes of Jason Faulkner (Jellyfish), Mike Patton (FNM, Mr Bungle etc), Sean Lennon, Evan Dando, Vivian Tremble (Luscious Jackson, Kostars), Josephine Wiggs (The Breeders), and many more esteemed musicians who are still around today in one form or another. |
